Carroll L. Woodward Sr.

WEST CORNWALL — Carroll L. Woodward Sr., 88, died peacefully at his home Sept.18, 2018, surrounded by his children.  

Carroll was born July 20, 1930, in Hardwick, Vt., son of the late Flora (Generess) and Percy Woodward.  

He resided in Canaan, N.H., until joining the United States Air Force, serving in Greenland as an airplane mechanic. Upon discharge he returned to Canaan to work on the family farm, where he met and married Margaret Mansur, also of Canaan.  

They married and moved to West Cornwall, where he worked and raised his six children on Cream Hill Farm for 32 years.  

Carroll was an honorary member of the Housatonic Chapter of the FFA. 

He was an avid member of the Mountain Laurel Square Dance Club.  

Upon retiring from farming Carroll worked for The Hotchkiss School and was a volunteer at Geer and at Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry in nearby North Canaan. He also continued to work at the New Marlborough Town Garage.

Carroll was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret “Peggy” Woodward, and his youngest daughter, June Woodward, both of New Marlborough, Mass.  His brother Henry of Casa Grande, Ariz., also predeceased him.

He is survived by his sister Helen Davis of Canaan; and his children Carroll “Woody” Woodward Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Millerton, Linda Avery of Pittsfield, Mass., Tina Perusse and her husband, Richard, of Becket, Mass., Nancy King and her husband, Mark, of Falls Village and Tracy and his wife, Samantha, of New Marlborough; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

A celebration of Carroll’s life will be held at noon on Sept. 29 at the Southfield Church in Southfield, Mass. In Carroll’s honor, there will be baskets set up to collect non-perishable items to donate to the local food pantry; or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the amazing organizations that helped Carroll’s family to fulfill his wish to live out his life in the home he loved so much: Elder Services of Berkshire County, 877 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201; or the New Marlborough First Responders, P.O. Box 28, Southfield, MA 01259.

CANAAN — Anita L. (King) Gochey, 85, of 77 South Canaan Rd. died June 5, 2026, at Geer Village. She was the wife of the late Lester Gochey. Anita was born July 16, 1940,in Winsted, daughter of the late Ivan and Irene (Dulude) King.

Anita was well known throughout the Northwest Corner. She worked for many local businesses and organizations. Anita worked at the Rexall Drug Store, C.A. Lindell and Sons, Bob’s Clothing, Brooks Pharmacy, and the Housatonic Valley Regional High School in the cafeteria.She used her skills in calligraphy to complete the record books for the North Canaan Congregational Church.Anita’s daughter remembers her as being very creative with cardboard, and a loving mom.
