Charles H. Clark Sr.


WINSTED — Charles H. Clark Sr., 87, of Danbury Quarter Road died peacefully at home Jan. 20, 2007. He was the husband of Evelyn (DuBourg) Clark.

Born in Granby, July 24, 1919, he was the son of Marion (Smith) and Frederick Clark. He lived most of his life in Winsted. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a plant engineer for the Hitchcock Chair Co. for 20 years. He had previously worked for many years as a tool and cam designer at Gilbert Clock Co. until it closed. He was a master woodworker, an avid gardner and had a special fondness for animals.

In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by his children, Patricia Clark of Winsted, Michael Clark and Charles Clark Jr. and his wife, Elisa, all of Torrington, and Jeffrey Clark and his wife, Joann, of Canton, Ohio; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two special friends, George Macintyre and Eric Delliber.

Funeral services were held Jan. 24 from the Maloney Funeral Home to St. James Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery in the spring.

The school's girls and boys teams were named league champions after finishing the regular season with the best win/loss records. Winning the tournaments earned each team a plaque and added to the program's success in 2025.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
