A dog's life? You should be so lucky

SALISBURY — Attention adventure seekers. No, not you. This one’s for your dogs.

The Puppy Adventure Club (PAC), the creation of Taylor Benatsou of Lakeville and Sarah and Kristine Kowalski of Lime Rock, is now open for business.

The concept of the club? The three  young people are offering to take people’s pets on mini-adventures such as walks and hikes around the Northwest Corner, with outings to, for example,  the Appalachian Trail and Mount Riga. That way, owners who have to work during the day can hire some energetic young people to tire out their  furry friends. At the end of the day, everyone is ready to relax and have some quiet family time.

“We’re looking to accommodate any puppy’s needs. And by puppies, we really mean dogs of all ages,†said Benatsou. “Our motto is ‘Join the PAC.’â€

A single puppy adventure costs $20, but five-day-per-week package deals cost $15 per trip, or $75 for the week.

There is also a 40-cent-per-mile travel fee for pickups and drop-offs.

For an additional $20, the Puppy Adventure Club team will wash your dog at the end of the outing.

If your pooch can’t get along with the rest of the pack, an individual walk costs $25. But the PAC leaders do hope that all the dogs can get along. They want to help dog’s from all over the area to become friendly and bond, with each other.

“Dogs should have a sense of family,†Benatsou said.

The Adventure Club will continue through the winter, rain, sleet, snow or shine.

“Rain will not scare us away from a puppy adventure,†Benatsou said.

Owners who are nervous about leaving their dog with strangers are welcome to come along on the adventures. Also, the PAC leaders are interested in finding new adventures and are open to suggestions from community members.

They are willing to take dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages. In Benatsou’s words, “We don’t discriminate unless your puppy discriminates.â€

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
