Eva Mae Ackerman Jr.

AMENIA — Eva Mae Ackerman Jr., 68, a lifelong town of Amenia resident, died Dec. 1, 2011, at The Kent in Kent. She was born Oct. 5, 1943, in Sharon, the daughter of the late Eva Mae (Decker) and Edward Ackerman. Eva was a laundry attendant at the Wassaic Developmental Center for 30 years before retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Wassaic Fire Company and the Company’s Ladies’ Auxiliary for more than 10 years. An avid bingo player, she also enjoyed plastic canvas needlepointing. Eva is survived by five brothers, Thomas Ackerman of Wassaic, David Ackerman of Kent, Randy Ackerman of Wassaic, Michael Ackerman of Wingdale and Robert Ackerman; three sisters, Joanne Diamonti of North Canaan, Jill Calderelli of Amenia and Heidi Short of Mount Carmel, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.The Wassaic Fire Company conducted services Dec. 5. Graveside services and burial were held Dec. 6 at Valley View Cemetery in Dover Plains. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wassaic Fire Company, Firehouse Road, Wassaic, NY 12592 or to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity baseball won big at home Wednesday, April 16, with a 15-3 win against Terryville High School.

Housatonic performed well on both sides of the ball. Offensively, HVRHS batters combined for 12 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

NWCT Arts Council: Spring fundraiser

On Saturday, April 26, the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council will host a special evening, Arts Connected, their spring fundraiser celebrating the power of creativity and community. Held at the Bryan Memorial Town Hall in Washington Depot from 5 to 8 p.m., this event brings together artists, performers, and neighbors for a magical night filled with inspiration, connection and joy.

Award-winning designer and arts advocate Diane von Furstenberg and her granddaughter Antonia Steinberg are honorary co-chairs of the event. Their shared love of the arts informs the spirit of the evening.
