Ford dealership changes hands: McLean Ford is now North East Ford

NORTH EAST — Located at 182 US-44 just outside the village of Millerton, the local Ford dealership formerly known as McLean Ford has new ownership — and a new name: North East Ford.

Previously owned and run by Dave McLean, the dealership’s contract with both McLean and Ford was under negotiation for about a year before it was purchased by Lann Rubin II last September.

With a background that includes 20 years of experience selling cars, Rubin considered the Ford dealership a perfect fit. Beginning his career in 1991 with a sales position at the former Country Chevrolet in Warwick, N.Y., he joined Ford in 1998 as a business manager and later worked as the general manager and partner at Rhinebeck Ford in Rhinebeck. He was also employed as a general manager at both All-American Ford in Kingston and  Miracle Ford in Pleasant Valley.

On top of his experience in knowing the ins and outs of selling cars, he’s an active community member. Since 1997, he has been a resident of Dutchess County.

“For me, just being attached to the community is important,” Rubin said.

Partnering with Stephen Hoare to run the dealership in Millerton, Rubin’s new ownership became effective on Wednesday, Jan. 3, coinciding with McLean Ford’s closing. The dealership re-opened the following day under its new name.

Rubin said they wanted to name the business after the township they’re going to serve, seeing that “it’s the community that makes them or breaks them.”

Adapting to his new position has been seamless for Rubin, he said. He’s welcomed a large number of customers to the dealership in his first few weeks there.

When asked about the dealership’s future, Rubin hopes to triple, perhaps quadruple, its inventory. Along with its regular hours of operation, the dealership will be open for service on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and for sales on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rubin also plans to advertise on television and social media to attract customers, hopeful that people will buy locally.

In addition to the new faces working at the dealership, customers will be happy to know that longtime salesmen Derek Gardner and Bruce Flint will remain at North East Ford, along with many of McLean’s service staff.

For many pet owners, animals are family. On Saturday, May 30, that bond will be celebrated in a uniquely practical and heartfelt way when the Blessing of the Animals returns to Third Lutheran Evangelical Church in Rhinebeck alongside a free rabies vaccination clinic hosted by Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.

The event, scheduled from noon to 4 p.m., is free for Dutchess County residents and open to dogs, cats and domestic ferrets three months and older. While the clinic itself provides an important public health service, organizers say the day has become about much more than vaccinations.
