George Livingston Fullerton

MILLERTON — George Livingston Fullerton, 89, a longtime area resident, died peacefully at his home in Fort Pierce, Fla., on March 22, 2015. 

Mr. Fullerton was an industrial arts “shop” teacher at Webutuck High School in Amenia for 28 years, retiring in 1985. He taught industrial arts at Kildonan School in Amenia, from 1985 to 1991; and he taught industrial arts in New Milford, Conn., for a period of time.

Born Jan. 14, 1926, in Staten Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Alice (Kennedy) and Esson Fullerton. George attended Staten Island Regional High School and New Britian Teachers College in New Britian, Conn. 

George served his country honorably during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was discharged in 1946 from the Army Air Force. 

On Aug. 24, 1952, at the Millerton Presbyterian Church, he married Eleanor Coons. George and Eleanor were together for more than 54 years, until her passing in 2006. 

George and Eleanor had lived in Millerton from 1957 to 1991 and they wintered in Florida from 1991 until 2006. He became a full-time resident of Fort Pierce in 2009.

George held an amateur radio license and belonged to various radio clubs, using the call sign WB2IIV. 

He was a longtime member and former deacon of the Millerton Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed square dancing with Tri Mountain Squares for many years. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and his many friends and caregivers.

He is survived by his son, Robert Fullerton and his wife, Ruth, of Millerton; his daughter, Sally Slachta and her husband, John, of Belmont,N.C.; his grandchildren, Dan and Mindy Arnold and Jason and Justin Fullerton; a great-grandson, Garrett Arnold; his brother-in-law, Cleon Sawyer of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Cosette Fullerton of Blairsville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, George was predeceased by his two brothers, John Fullerton and Garrick Fullerton.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home in Millerton. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at the Millerton Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Zora Ficarra-Cheatham officiating. 

Burial with full military honors will take place at Irondale Cemetery in Millerton. Memorial donations may be made to the North East-Millerton Library, 75 Main St., Millerton, NY 12546; or Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34991-5688.

CORNWALL — “In Cornwall you have made the decision that everyone here matters and everyone’s story is important,” said U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Waterbury, to the seventh grade class at Cornwall Consolidated School April 23.

Hayes was in attendance to celebrate history on Wednesday as the CCS students presented their group research project on the life of Naomi Cain Freeman, the first Black female landowner in Cornwall.
