Housy boys defeat Wamogo

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School boys basketball team knocked off Wamogo on Tuesday, Jan. 20, by a final score of 63-53. Housy then lost to Shepaug, 62-53, on Friday, Jan. 23. The results bring the Mountaineers’ overall season record to 4-7.

Following back-to-back double-digit losses to Terryville and Lewis Mills, Housy looked to get back into the win column against the Warriors of Wamogo. The Mountaineers jumped out to an early 16-13 lead at the end of the first quarter before the Warriors narrowed the lead to one point, 26-25, heading into the half.

The third quarter was all Housy as the Mountaineers dominated play, holding the Warriors to only seven points. With the score 42-32 in favor of Housy heading into the final eight minutes, both teams found their offense and traded baskets for the entire quarter. Despite a late push by the Warriors, the Mountaineers hung on for the win, 63-53.

Senior Captain Chance ONeil led the team with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists. Justin Dean contributed 19 points and five rebounds, and Captain Nick Camardi scored 15 points with three rebounds and three assists.

Three days later, Housy traveled to Shepaug looking to avenge a 78-53 loss in the season opener. Both teams came out fighting hard, but it was the Spartans holding the slim 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was all Shepaug as the two teams headed into the half with the score 35-21 in favor of the home team.

Down by 14 with half the game still to play, the Mountaineers stepped up their defense and narrowed the deficit to 42-37 at the end of the third quarter. Heading into the final eight minutes, Housy looked to ride their momentum from the previous quarter, but the Spartan offense was too good. The final buzzer sounded with the score 62-53 in favor of the opposition.

ONeil led the Mountaineers with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists on the night. Max Vadakin contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and one assist, while Dean finished with nine points and two rebounds.

Up next for Housy is a home contest against Northwestern Regional High School on Jan 29.
