HVRHS student of the week: Sheri Rybczyk

The Lakeville Journal congratulates the honorees of the student of the week program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. FALLS VILLAGE — In speaking about her favorite teachers at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, senior Sheri Rybczyk has a clear formula in mind: “They are charismatic, personable and knowledgeable about their subject.”Teachers such as Mrs. Becker, Mrs. Carter and Mr. Krupa (her French 2, History 12H and Music Theory teachers, respectively) would undoubtedly say the same of Sheri. Always ready with a quick smile and a cheery “hello,” Sheri is a pleasant presence in our hallways, but her involvement doesn’t end there.Sheri is a four-year athlete in track and volleyball, a treasurer for our Student Government Association, and a thoroughly involved participant in the HVRHS music program as a member of the Night Choir, Sweethearts and the Berkshire Choir.Her true passion, however, lies at the intersection of social studies and foreign language study. She has visited six countries in Europe, and she aspires to continue her acquisition of foreign language at a college in the Northeast in preparation for a career in international studies. French is her first attempt at learning a second language, but Sheri wants to add Arabic and Japanese to her resume before she leaves college.“An exchange” is how Sheri describes her vision for her future. “I want to go to someplace like Afghanistan to show them that all Americans are not as bad as they think, and then come back to America to show our people that all Afghans are not as bad as we think.”With such a charismatic, personable and knowledgeable young person attempting to reconcile our countries, we certainly have reason to believe in that vision.
