TACONIC — There was considerable excitement last Saturday when a Grassland Farms team driven by Walter Frink broke through the ice in the channel near the dam at the Scoville place. The horses were drawing a snow-scraper preparatory to ice cutting. One horse went under the water, but fortunately his mate was able to touch bottom in a shallow place, and draw the other horse to shore. Some years ago another team owned by George House were drowned in a similar accident.

Correction  — The past three weeks’ “75 years agoâ€ actually took place in 1934, not 1935. Both years are on the same microfilm reel and I inadvertently looked at the wrong year.  Items for this week are the correct year.  Entries are taken from decades-old Lakeville Journals. The items contain original spellings and phrases.                                   — N.E.G.

Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
