John ‘Jack’ Washington Evans

SHARON — John “Jack” Washington Evans, 75, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Sharon on July 19, 2019. 

Mr. Evans was the son of Dr. Charles Hawes Evans and Jean Robinson Evans. 

Jack was born and raised in South Orange, N.J., and was a resident of Sharon for many years. 

Following service in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam war and eight months in St. Albans Naval Hospital, Mr. Evans founded MECCA/MECA Development and Evans Cooling Companies and continued work as an automotive inventor/engineer until his death. 

Mr. Evans battled with General Motors for 14 years over the theft of one of his automotive trade secrets and won. He is the named inventor on hundreds of U.S. and foreign patents.

Jack was a brilliant, kind and loving man. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Bonnie (Kelemen) Evans; his two adopted stepsons, Douglas Evans of Sharon and Daniel Evans of Boulder, Colo.; two granddaughters, Sage and River Evans; a brother, Dr. Charles Evans and Nancy Evans and niece Dr. Heather Evans.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary L. Evans.

Interment is private and the family requests donations be made to the Sharon Fire Dept.

Arrangements are under the care of the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.

LAKEVILLE — At nearly 11 p.m. on Monday night, Oct. 20, Salisbury’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-1 to approve, with conditions, Aradev LLC’s controversial application to redevelop the Wake Robin Inn.

The decision came more than 4 hours after the meeting began at 6:30 p.m., and more than a year since Aradev submitted its first application to expand the longstanding country inn. The approved plans call for a new 2,000-square-foot cabin, an event space, a sit-down restaurant and fast-casual counter, a spa, library, lounge, gym and seasonal pool.
