WASSAIC — Kenneth J. Thompson, 84, a longtime resident of Wassaic, died Sept. 11, 2011, at Sharon Health Care Center. Mr. Thompson was a self-employed carpenter for over 20 years. He was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Kent, the son of the late Myrtle (Mitchell) and Howard Thompson. He married Margaret Murphy on June 28, 1947, in Amenia. She died on Dec. 29, 2010. Mr. Thompson is survived by six daughters, Linda Winchcombe and her husband, Fred, of Wassaic, Nancy Nowak and her husband, John, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Sandra Corrigan of West Palm Beach, Patricia Millius and her husband, Robert, of Millerton, Deirdre Epstein and her husband, Steven, of New Milford, Conn., and Susan Thompson and her husband, Tony Raneri, of Louisville, Colo.; a sister, Myrtle Van Buskirk of Rhinebeck; five grandchildren, Sean Winchcombe, Andrew Nowak, Sara Chandra, Amanda Parker and Zachary Nowak; two great-grandchildren, Kira Winchcombe and Katelyn Chandra; and two nieces and a nephew.In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Thompson was predeceased by a brother, Robert Thompson.Calling hours will be held Friday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Immaculate Conception Church, in Amenia. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. NORTH CANAAN — The park on Main Street in North Canaan was officially renamed Bunny McGuire Park at a ceremony beneath the pavilion Saturday, June 7.

Clementine “Bunny” McGuire was recognized for her lifelong commitment to volunteerism in town. Her civil contributions include work with the Beautification Committee, the Douglas Library, the historical society, a poll worker, an employee of North Canaan Elementary and Housatonic Valley Regional High Schools and a volunteer at her church.

SHARON — Angela Derrick Carabine, 74, died May 16, 2025, at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York. She was the wife of Michael Carabine and mother of Caitlin Carabine McLean.

Revisiting ‘The Killing Fields’ with Sam Waterston

On June 7 at 3 p.m., the Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington will host a benefit screening of “The Killing Fields,” Roland Joffé’s 1984 drama about the Khmer Rouge and the two journalists, Cambodian Dith Pran and New York Times correspondent Sydney Schanberg, whose story carried the weight of a nation’s tragedy.

The film, which earned three Academy Awards and seven nominations — including one for Best Actor for Sam Waterston — will be followed by a rare conversation between Waterston and his longtime collaborator and acclaimed television and theater director Matthew Penn.
