League of Women Voters names new directors

The League of Women Voters of Litchfield County announced its newly elected Board of Directors for 2022-23.

Officers include: President, Marianne Seeber; First Vice-President Kerry Mayers;  Second Vice-President Marie Pettibone; Treasurer Theresa Lavoie; Secretary Patti Hamaguchi; and Membership Jackie Miller and Bibby Veerman.

Board Members include: Archivist, Lindsay Feinberg: Election Reporting Bibby Veerman; Publicity Doreen Deary; Advocacy Rosemarie Greco;  Voter Services Kerry Mayers and Laura Stancs; Corresponding Secretary and Hospitality Diane Ryan; Members-at-Large include Pat Donovan, Candy Perez and Paula Rolleston.

At its annual meeting on June 29, Seeber addressed over 30 members and guests, urging them to “roll up their sleeves” alongside the board to achieve their collective mission.

Seeber reflected on the legacies of previous Board members and encouraged all members to commit to some service this year. The priority will be reaching out to the 29 towns throughout the county, offering events to educate the public about the upcoming referendum on the ballot this November regarding absentee voting.

The League studies issues rather than supporting political parties, agendas, or candidates, and has been recognized for its work in fostering civic engagement and education.

The hope is that these efforts will help shape public policy, support needed legislation, and promote informed citizenship at all levels of government.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
