A Special Town Meeting of the electors and citizens qualified to vote in town meetings of the Town of Salisbury, Connecticut, will be held at Salisbury TownHall. 27 Main Street, Salisbury, Connecticut, on October 16, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. for the following purposes:

1. To consider and vote upon the Town’s Local Capital Improvement Program Plan (LOCIP) (5-year plan) for fiscal years 2019-2023.

2. To consider and approve an ordinance, adopted pursuant to Connecticut Public Act No. 17-65, providing for a municipal property tax exemption for Gold Star Parents and Spouses. STANFORDVILLE —Margaret Anita Layton passed away on April 30, 2026, after a recurring battle with cancer, surrounded by friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents, Anita and Jack Egan, brother John P. Egan, III, and nephew Michael Egan. She leaves behind a brother, numerous nieces and a nephew, as well as a community of chosen sisters who loved her very much.

Margaret was born in the Bronx, New York, and moved to Clinton Corners as a small child. Margaret spent her adult life in Stanfordville, where she owned Margaret A. Layton, E.A. Tax and Business Consulting. Margaret was a lover of all animals and an avid horse enthusiast with an active presence in the draft horse community. Midge lived out loud. Her vibrancy left a mark that will never be forgotten and will be sorely missed.

Falls Village sexton files complaint against Town Clerk

FALLS VILLAGE — A formal complaint filed by cemetery sexton Tracey Wilson against Town Clerk Johanna Mann was brought before the Board of Selectmen during its regular meeting Monday, July 13.

The complaint alleges that Mann ignored Wilson while she attempted to complete required state business at Town Hall.

Salisbury affordable housing development on hold after crews discover oil-contaminated soil

The Holley Place affordable housing development in Lakeville is on hold until the extent of soil contamination can be determined.

SALISBURY — Shortly after construction crews dug the foundation for Holley Place, an affordable housing development in Lakeville, crews noticed the smell of fuel oil and brought concerns to the Salisbury Housing Committee (SHC), the developers of the project.

The Salisbury Board of Selectmen discussed the matter during a special meeting on Monday, July 20, confirming that the findings will impact the overall cost and construction timeline for the proposed 14-unit housing project. The discovery of contaminated soil, which occurred in mid-June, forced the project to pause with environmental testing expected to last for at least an additional month.

The new red cedar pavilion for the Agricultural Science and Technology Education Land Lab will serve as an outdoor classroom.

FALLS VILLAGE — The “land lab” for the Agricultural Science and Technology Education (ASTE) department at Housatonic Valley Regional High School now includes a pavilion that will serve as an outdoor classroom.

Bruce Bennett, chair of the ASTE advisory board, said Monday, July 13, that the 14-by-24-foot red cedar pavilion was purchased from Kloter Farms in Ellington.

The Region One Middle School summer camp wrapped up its fifth summer of activities on Friday, July 17.

FALLS VILLAGE — The Region One Middle School summer camp wrapped up its fifth summer of activities on Friday, July 17 with a stream hike, paddleboarding, tennis, fishing and a trip to Lake Wononscopmuc in Lakeville–with free ice cream.

Barbara Hockstader, one of the organizers, said the camp, called “Summer Mountaineer Experience,” is free and open to all Region One children who are entering grades 5 through 8 in the fall.

Volunteers at the historic 2026 Cornwall Woman’s Society Rummage Sale sort items Saturday, July 18.

CORNWALL Shoppers lined outside the Mohawk Mountain Ski Area lodge on the morning of July 21 for Cornwall’s annual Rummage Sale, hosted by the Cornwall Woman’s Society.

Every year the ski lodge and village green are filled with clothing, toys, furniture donations and more. For three days, people from far beyond Cornwall come to shop and support the fundraiser.
