We need comprehensive plan

To begin, I want to express my appreciation for the support and encouragement I received during the recent election. While not successful, I very much enjoyed meeting many people I had not known previously in our community. Congratulations to Chris Kennan and Ralph Fedele on their election to the North East Town Board.

Going forward, I am committed to running the most inclusive North East/Millerton Comprehensive Plan Update process possible. The Committee, appointed by the Town Board in the spring, has been meeting monthly to hear various experts discuss planning issues.

In October we received a grant to hire a planning consultant. We met with our chosen planner, Nan Stolzenburg, for the first time at the end of October. At that meeting, we mapped out a timeline of how a comprehensive plan update process should be conducted.

The Committee is now developing ways to gather feedback from the residents of North East and Millerton. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 4 p.m., at the North East Town Hall and is open to anyone who would like to attend.

We appreciate our members

For the first time, the FRIENDS of the Pine Plains Free library participated in National Friends of the Library Week in October. It was exciting to look back on our 11 years of support of the library and to relive our past events.

We appreciate our members, and the many individuals and organizations who have helped us, and the library Board of Trustees for acknowledging our contributions. Under the guidance of Elaine Levy, banners of our history were created. They were displayed at the Ag Fair, which was organized by Jean Osofsky, and then hung in the library. Throughout the week-long celebration, Vicky LoBrutto posted daily on our Facebook page to highlight our past endeavors.

The individual members of our board, listed below, have volunteered their time and energies to the library and our community. I’m proud and happy to be a part of this organization of wonderful FRIENDS and I thank each of you very much.
