Lisa (Rood) Caul

ASHLEY FALLS — Lisa (Rood) Caul, 50, of Ashley Falls Road passed away peacefully June 28, 2010, at her home in the company of her family.

A lifelong resident of the area, Lisa was born Nov. 7, 1959, in Great Barrington, the daughter of Minnie (Wilhelm) Rood and the late George A. Rood.  

She graduated from Mount Everett Regional High School with the class of 1977, and in subsequent years studied business management, accounting and bookkeeping.

Lisa’s profession was health care. For 25 years she was employed at Jay B. Kain Physical Therapy in Great Barrington, as the business manager and treasurer. Previously, she was office manager for Southern Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in Great Barrington, and a supervisor at the Fairview Hospital dietary department.

Lisa had a lifelong interest in writing, as exemplified by her popular blog, Lisa’s Recovery Journey, which she published throughout her determined battle with cancer.  She also had a continuing fascination with the Old West and the Southwest.

Lisa was well-known for her generosity and selfless assistance to those in need. The community’s regard for Lisa was demonstrated by the huge turnout for her benefit evening at the Egremont Country Club last February.

In addition to her mother, Lisa is survived by her husband, George A. Caul Jr.; her daughter, Emily L. Baird; her grandson, Matias A. Baird; her sister, Georgia Blades of Salisbury; and her brothers, James G. Bennett and David A. Rood, both of Ashley Falls.  

All of Lisa’s friends and supporters are invited to a celebration of her life to be held Saturday, July 10, on the hill behind her home in Ashley Falls. Details and directions will appear on her Caring Bridge Journal. Burial at the Ashley Falls Cemetery will be private.Remembrances, memories and reflections may be sent to Lisa’s family at lcaul@verizon.net.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
