Love, loaves and more at library on Feb. 16

FALLS VILLAGE — LOaVEs in the Stacks, this year’s winter fundraiser for the David M. Hunt Library, to be held Saturday, Feb. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m., is a departure from the traditional. The library’s winter event in recent years was Chocolate in the Village, but this year the library’s members decided to try something different. As the capitalization in the title suggests, the theme is love, beginning with scenes from classic films showing romantic interludes that will be screened while pianist Joshua Stone plays appropriate music. There are three games planned. In Cupid’s Arrow, contestants guess the identity of famous couples from pictures. Winners will receive treats from the Falls Village Marshmallow Company. In Love in the Stacks, a treasure hunt is combined with poetry readings. Contestants get an envelope with clues and head into the library stacks to find the poems indicated. When the poems are located, a guest reader will read them aloud. Contestants will win books. The readers are: Rita Delgado, Garth Kobal, Lonnie Carter, Kane Clawson, Woods Sinclair, Brook Martinez and Betsy Howie. The evening winds up with Stone’s popular Name That Tune game, featuring love songs. The prizes are books, marshmallows and a gift certificate from the Falls Village Inn.To keep body and soul together during the revelry, there will be a 16-foot bread board set up, and an open bar serving wine and beer (thus the loaves in the stacks).Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The event is sponsored by the National Iron Bank and Skyhorse Press.
