AMENIA — During Maplebrook School’s annual President’s Breakfast on Tuesday, June 7, Amenia town Supervisor Wayne Euvrard was presented with an award honoring his service to the community.Euvrard, a military veteran and active Lions Club member, has been serving his hometown of Amenia for more than 20 years. He has been on the Recreation Committee, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Town Board. This is his fourth year as the town supervisor.Euvrard was the 15th recipient of Maplebrook’s award. He received a plaque of appreciation, and donations were collected to form a scholarship in his name.During the breakfast, New York state Assemblyman Marc Molinaro, Euvrard’s sister, Dara Euvrard Russell, and colleague Michael Hayes (also attorney to the town of Amenia) spoke about Euvrard’s accomplishments.Molinaro noted that Euvrard’s dedication, passion for the town and great work on the boards have kept him in office, which is no easy feat. He also gave Euvrard a certificate of merit from the New York State Assembly, saying, “By recognizing Wayne, we are also recognizing Amenia.”Euvrard Russell spoke of her brother’s determination and passion for his hometown.Hayes, who has worked with Euvrard on the Town Board, talked about how Euvrard possesses the “rare trait” that allows him to accept objective interpretations of the law without trying to bend the law to his will. He also congratulated Euvrard for securing the Amenia Elementary School building as the new home of the Amenia Town Hall.“‘Honor’ and ‘service’ are two very important words to me,” said Euvrard as he accepted the award. A hard worker since childhood, he talked about how he has tried to serve his town to the best of his abilities; he said he was honored to receive such a wonderful award.According to Maplebrook, the President’s Breakfast is one of the ways it brings the school and the community closer together. The recipient of Maplebrook’s award is “someone who has become a respected member of his community and has devoted numerous hours in assisting others for the greater good. These are types of individuals that we teach our students to emulate and as such, we want to recognize and applaud their efforts,” stated George Whalen, a past Maplebrook honoree and master of ceremonies at the breakfast.

When designer Abigail Horace joined the Blackshires Leadership Accelerator, she was looking for support for her business, Casa Marcelo, which was founded in Salisbury in 2019. Throughout her experience, Horace found a community of peers invested in one another’s success.

“Finding Blackshires has been transformative,” Horace said. “Being a BIPOC founder in this region can feel isolating, and this community has changed that. They see my work, champion my business and have opened doors I couldn’t have opened alone.”
