Marchello William Perotti

NORTH CANAAN — Marchello William Perotti, 96, of Granite Avenue Extension died April 13, 2011, at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Canaan. He was the husband of the late Clara Josephine (Brighenty) Perotti, who died in 2004. Marchello was born April 19, 1914, in Lime Rock, the son of the late Giuseppina (Donitini) and Giacondo Perotti. Marchello was employed as a foreman for the Tri-State Reserve Company. He worked for the company from 1951 until his retirement in 1981. He served his country in World War II as a private first class in the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater of Operation. Marchello was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in North Canaan, and an avid golfer and gardener. He was well-known for his geraniums. Marchello was an honorary member of the Couch-Pipa Post VFW in North Canaan, the Berkshire Council Knights of Columbus, and the Northwest Rod and Gun Club. He was also a well-known baseball player in the Tri-state area. He played second base for teams from Falls Village, Salisbury, Lakeville and Sharon in the Tri-state League. After World War II he played for a fast pitch league in the town of North Canaan. Marchello also found time to volunteer for the church’s chicken barbecue and at the VFW’s annual clambake. Marchello is survived by his son, John L. Perotti and his wife, Margaret, of Meriden, Conn.; his grandson, John L. Perotti Jr. of Meriden; his nephew, Frank Perotti and his wife, Ann, and their daughter, Lori-Ann, all of Springfield, Mass., and their daughter, Lynne Doki, of Tennessee. He was predeceased by his brothers Levio, Frank, Mario and Peter; his sister, Catherine; his nephew, Robert Perotti; and his grandnephew, Robert Perotti Jr. Marchello’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care that was provided to him by the staff of the Whispering Pines Unit of the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, Dr. George Veinoglou, Sharon Hospital, East Mountain Medical Center in Great Barrington, Dr. Dennis Kobylarz, Dr. Daniel Patel, the Northwest Hills Visiting Nurse Association, especially Darlene, and to Norma of Chore Services.A Mass of Christian burial was held April 19 at St. Joseph’s Church in North Canaan. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
