Margaret Prelli

WINSTED — Margaret “Peggy†Prelli, 96, formerly of 9 Gay St. and Great Barrington, Mass., died Nov. 21, 2008, at Laurel Hill Healthcare Center in Winsted, following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Peter I. Prelli, who died in 1974.

Born in Craveggia, Italy, Dec. 15, 1911, she was the daughter of Anunziata (Ruschetti) and Enrico Guerra. She immigrated with her family to Interlaken, part of Stockbridge, Mass., in 1919. She and her family then went to Hill, Calif., where her stepfather worked in a logging camp and Peggy started school.  After school they made their way back east and Peggy went to work in Barrington Mills in Great Barrington, making sheets and pillowcases, and became floor lady.  After her marriage to Peter, Peggy spent her remaining years in Winsted raising her family.

During World War II, she was a volunteer for the Red Cross. In later years she loved reading books.

Survivors include her son, Peter Jr. and his wife, Gloria, of Great Barrington; sisters Pia Cottini of Alaska, Zita Borgnis of Italy and Alma Bill of Waterbury; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by a son, John Prelli, in 1981.  

Funeral services were held Nov. 26 from Maloney Funeral Home to St. Joseph Church, Winsted.

NORTH CANAAN — The park on Main Street in North Canaan was officially renamed Bunny McGuire Park at a ceremony beneath the pavilion Saturday, June 7.

Clementine “Bunny” McGuire was recognized for her lifelong commitment to volunteerism in town. Her civil contributions include work with the Beautification Committee, the Douglas Library, the historical society, a poll worker, an employee of North Canaan Elementary and Housatonic Valley Regional High Schools and a volunteer at her church.

Angela Derrico Carabine

SHARON — Angela Derrick Carabine, 74, died May 16, 2025, at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York. She was the wife of Michael Carabine and mother of Caitlin Carabine McLean.

Revisiting ‘The Killing Fields’ with Sam Waterston

On June 7 at 3 p.m., the Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington will host a benefit screening of “The Killing Fields,” Roland Joffé’s 1984 drama about the Khmer Rouge and the two journalists, Cambodian Dith Pran and New York Times correspondent Sydney Schanberg, whose story carried the weight of a nation’s tragedy.

The film, which earned three Academy Awards and seven nominations — including one for Best Actor for Sam Waterston — will be followed by a rare conversation between Waterston and his longtime collaborator and acclaimed television and theater director Matthew Penn.
