Marjorie (Silliman) Ives Morley

GOSHEN — Marjorie (Silliman) Ives Morley, 94, formerly of Goshen, died on June 24, 2009, at Geer in North Canaan after a long illness. She was the widow of Russell C. Morley of West Hartford.

She was born in Bridgeport on May 15, 1915, the daughter of Howard Wheeler and Florence (Bottomley) Silliman.

She attended local schools and graduated as a registered nurse from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. Marjorie worked as a nurse at Bridgeport Hospital and later at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.

Affectionately known by her nickname, "Apple," Marjorie was an active community volunteer while raising her sons in the Westport/Green Farms area. In Goshen, she was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ Congregational where she served as a deacon.

While she loved nursing and had the well-earned reputation as a capable and extremely caring staff member, family was the main focus in her life, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren holding a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her brother, Paul Silliman Sr. of Wantaugh, N.Y.; three sons, John H. Ives Jr. of Leesburg, Va., and his wife, Sue, Robert S. Ives of Goshen and his wife, Dale, and Frederick W. Ives of Lakeville and his wife, Barbara; three stepdaughters, Marilyn Tanner and her husband, Alvin, of Concord, N.H., Janet Siers of Nashua, N.H., and Marcia Hublitz and her husband, Marty, of West Hartford; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, with a 17th due in October.

She was predeceased by two brothers, H. Wheeler Silliman and Frederic N. Silliman.

Her family is appreciative of the wonderful care she received during her three years at Geer.

There are no calling hours. The Nutting-Rowe Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Book of Remembrance of the Church of Christ; or to Goshen Community Care and Hospice.
