Mary Patricia ‘Pat’ McGrath

MILLERTON — Mary Patricia “Pat” McGrath, 86, a 12-year resident of Millerton and formerly of Breezy Point, Queens, N.Y., died peacefully at her home in Millerton on Aug. 11, 2015, with her family by her side. 

Born Jan. 25, 1929, in Dalton, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Mary (Duffy) and William Haner.  

Pat graduated from Dalton area schools and received her bachelor’s degree in music and education from The College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y.  

On June 28, 1958, in the Bronx, N.Y., she married John Paul McGrath. Mr. McGrath died March 13, 2013.

Pat worked for New England Life Insurance Company in Manhattan  for more than 30 years, retiring in 1991. She was also the church organist for St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Breezy Point for more than 35 years.

Some of Pat’s fondest musical memories were of attending a Don Ho concert in Hawaii and seeing Jimmy Buffet perform in Las Vegas, Nev.  

She will be greatly missed by many and fondly remembered by all.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Catherine McGrath of Millerton; and her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Melanie McGrath of Dalton.

Arrangements are under the care of the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home in Millerton. 

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 14  at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, the Rev. Godfrey officiating. 

Private burial was at Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton.

BRISTOL — The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team ended the season with a 34-0 shutout victory over St. Paul Catholic High School Wednesday, Nov. 26.

It was GNH’s fourth consecutive Turkey Bowl win against St. Paul and the final game for 19 GNH seniors.

The Kearcher-Monsell Gallery at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village is once again host to a wonderful student-curated exhibition. “Once Upon a Time in America,” ten portraits by New Haven artist Katro Storm, opened on Nov. 20 and will run through the end of the year.

“This is our first show of the year,” said senior student Alex Wilbur, the current head intern who oversees the student-run gallery. “I inherited the position last year from Elinor Wolgemuth. It’s been really amazing to take charge and see this through.”

Mini horses, big impact: animal learning center opens in Sheffield

Le Petit Ranch offers animal-assisted therapy and learning programs for children and seniors in Sheffield.

Le Petit Ranch, a nonprofit offering animal-assisted therapy and learning programs, opened in April at 147 Bears Den Road in Sheffield. Founded by Marjorie Borreda, the center provides programs for children, families and seniors using miniature horses, rescued greyhounds, guinea pigs and chickens.

Borreda, who moved to Sheffield with her husband, Mitch Moulton, and their two children to be closer to his family, has transformed her longtime love of animals into her career. She completed certifications in animal-assisted therapy and coaching in 2023, along with coursework in psychiatry, psychology, literacy and veterinary skills.
