Meat, baked goods and veg at Kent market

KENT — The farm market in the center of town has opened, located this year at 9 South Main St. (Route 7), just south of the traffic light.

Participating vendors this year include Mountain View, an organic farm in Kent, which will have greens, tomatoes, eggs and more this season; Ridgway Farm from Cornwall, which will offer vegetables, meat, plants and maple syrup products; The Village Farm in Gaylordsville, with everything from geraniums to asparagus to rhubarb to greens. 

New this year is DeHoek Farm from New Milford, promising “humanely raised and processed Black Angus beef.”

Also new this year are baked goods from Sweet Molly’s of Sherman, Conn., with sweets and pastries as well as fresh rye, challah and other breads.

Opening day for the market was Friday, May 24. It will be open every Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. For updates, go on Facebook to Kent CT Farmer’s Market.

FALLS VILLAGE — Ten Falls Village veterans came to the Lee H. Kellogg School Monday morning, Nov. 10, for a Veterans Day breakfast in their honor.

The veterans gathered in the library, enjoyed coffee and doughnuts, rose for the Pledge of Allegiance, and smiled broadly as the students in grades K-2 sang “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”

KENT — The Kent Transfer Station is set to undergo a series of major renovations meant to modernize and streamline its waste management operations after receiving a state grant of $408,500 in a recent round of funding.

Town, state and regional officials gathered at the facility on Tuesday morning, Nov. 4, to celebrate the award and discuss the future of recycling, composting and waste reduction in Kent and across western Connecticut.

LAKEVILLE — Fourteen veterans came to Salisbury Central School on a rainy Monday afternoon, Nov. 10, for a Veterans Day ceremony.

The middle school chorus sang “God Bless America” and, with the K-5 chorus, “Thank You Soldiers.”
