Members sought for new EDC

CORNWALL — An Economic Development Commission (EDC) was officially established at a town meeting Oct. 8.The proposal came from the economic study group that met this past spring, as a need identified by the revised Town Plan of Conservation and Development. The EDC will be an advisory group, with nine members appointed by the selectmen to serve alternating three-year terms. A member of the Board of Selectmen will serve as an ex-officio member.Cornwall resident Judy Herkimer said she was concerned that the commission members had already been selected, and that the opportunity to serve was not extended to everyone in town.First Selectman Gordon Ridgway said the commission has not been appointed. Many of the study group members are interested, but he considered the town meeting decision as “putting the word out.”Anyone interested should call 860-672-4959.
