Motor sports business opens at old Canton Cycles shop

WINSTED — The Laurel City’s newest business, Redline Power Sports, has opened in the former location of Canton Cycles at 70 South Main St.The store offers new original equipment manufacturer and aftermarket parts for all types of motorized vehicles, along with a wide selection of accessories for riders of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and watercraft.The store is owned by resident Shannon Fry, a motor enthusiast for many years.“I used to work at Canton Cycles when it was in Canton, and my mother worked there for 35 years,” Fry said. “I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was 16. I own a Kawasaki motorcycle now and I love riding it because it can take you places you wouldn’t normally go in a car. When I ride, I like the time I spend on it because it takes you on a journey.”Fry said she opened the store to give motor enthusiasts a place to shop locally.“Sometimes you lose a lot when you go shopping online, including human interaction,” she said. “No matter what you ride, everyone is welcome here.”Redline Power Sports is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store is closed on Monday and Sunday.Redline Sports offers a wide selection of accessories, helmets, jackets, sunglasses and other gear.Redline also employs a mechanic, Dan Mangione, who specializes in motorcycles, boats and ATVs.For more information, call 860-238-4248 or visit www.redlinect.com.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
