Musical instruments, gear at market

NORTH CANAAN — A musicians flea market is set for Saturday, Aug. 29, under the pavilion at Lawrence Field (across from McDonald’s).

It was started four years ago by local musicians Kevin Godburn and Sean Claydon as a way to sell and swap gear, make some cash and cultivate contacts and new friends. It is held twice a year (in late summer and spring) and is  geared for musicians interested in buying, selling, swapping or being motivated.

Its popularity is due in large part to the wide range of instruments, music books, amps, drums and other gear brought by the 20 to 30 vendors who usually participate. While a large percentage are guitars and guitar-related items, this is the place to find just about anything on one’s list. And it’s simply a good time.

“The sale is also a great way for people to find good bargains on instruments,” Godburn said.  “We get quite a few buyers looking for instruments for their children as well as people who are not necessarily musicians yet but are thinking about taking up an instrument. The sale is for everyone.”

Vendors regularly come from all over the state and as far away as Amherst, Mass., and there is a large inventory. For $5, a vendor can set up as many tables as he or she wants. There are plenty of electrical outlets available, nearby parking and loading under cover if needed, so rain won’t matter.

Admission for buyers is free.

The sale runs from 10 am. to 3 p.m.

To reserve a space, contact Godburn at 860-824-7346 or kevingodburn@yahoo.com.
