New Baroque Soloists Perform Valentine's Concert at St. Michael's-Litchfield

The New Baroque Soloists will offer an exciting new presentation of baroque chamber music, rich in the voices of woodwinds, brass and stringed instruments, inside the beautiful neo-Gothic St. Michael’s church in Litchfield. The concert will be held on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, beginning at 5:00p.m., and will feature two Bach Overtures for Trumpets, Oboe, Strings and Basso Continuo; a Quartet by J.J. Quantz which is rarely heard and very difficult; a Concerto for two horns by J.D. Heinichen (known as the "German Vivaldi") and the very popular Elevations by Italian composer Domenico Zipoli, among other selections from the group’s proprietary repertoire, compiled through twenty years of research and performance.Douglas Myers, Artistic Director of the group, playing trumpet and horn, has been solo trumpet in orchestras in the United States, Europe and Asia, before turning his attention to a career as soloist and chamber musician. In addition to the piccolo trumpet, he also specializes in the newly invented piccolo French horn. The New York Times said of a Carnegie Hall solo performance that he “Played with sheer musicianship . . . beautiful sound.”The concert will be presented with a freewill offering (suggested donation is $25) which includes a meet-the-artists sparkling reception. St. Michael's Parish is located at 25 South Street (Rte 63-S) just off the Litchfield Green.
