Norfolk Corner Store closed

NORFOLK — The Corner Store at 2 Station Place closed in early September.

The building itself is owned by Canton resident Martha Pallone.

Pallone said the operator of the store since February 2012 was Fadhl Saleh.

The Corner Store was the only retail outlet in town for residents to purchase groceries and food, including milk, bakery goods and other items.

“People knew that it was going slowly out of business,” Pallone said. “Week after week the store had less inventory. I have a lot of opinions on why the store went out of business, but I would rather keep them to myself.”

Saleh could not be reached for comment because his listed phone number has been disconnected.

Pallone said she did not have any contact information for Saleh.

“Even when the store was open he never gave me a phone number that worked,” Pallone said. “He never called me back when I called him.”

Pallone said the building was built in 1962 by her father-in-law, Joe Pallone.

Pallone operated a pharmacy out of the building from 1962 until 2003.

She said several general stores have come and gone in the location over the past few years.

“I think someone else will take it over soon,” Pallone said. “I haven’t given the listing to a Realtor yet. I am hoping someone will step up to open another store there. I would really prefer to sell the building, but we will see.”
