North Canaan stabbing under investigation

NORTH CANAAN — There remain many questions about a stabbing that occured on July 4 on West Main Street.

An ambulance was dispatched for a 17-year-old who was stabbed July 4 during an altercation at a West Main Street residence. The incident occurred during the afternoon.

The victim was not seriously injured. Police later apprehended a North Canaan teenager and placed him under arrest.

State police offered few details of the incident; even the name of the victim was withheld.

A later report from the police said they responded to a report of two male teens, ages 14 and 16, who were assaulted. The alleged assailant was identified as Dustin Lawrence, 18, of 92 Main Street in North Canaan. Lawrence fled to Massachusetts following the stabbing. He was apprehended there and was held awaiting extradition.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
