MILLERTON — Judith A. O’Malley, 86, a 32-year area resident, died Jan. 25, 2021, at Noble Horizons in Salisbury. 

Mrs. O’Malley worked as a dorm and recreation aide for Maplebrook School in Amenia for many years prior to her retirement.

Born Oct. 27, 1934, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Anna (Roleck) and George Goeller. She graduated from Bayside High School in 1952 and attended secretarial school in Great Neck, N.Y. 

On Oct. 22, 1955, at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Bayside, Queens, she married James M. O’Malley. Mr. O’Malley survives at home. 

Mrs. O’Malley enjoyed spending time with her loving grandchildren and taught each of them to swim. She was an avid lover of animals and liked to crochet, knit and sew. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved gardening and caring for her home. She was also a longtime parishioner of St. Martin of Tours Church of St. Mary in Lakeville. 

In addition to her husband, Mrs. O’Malley is survived by her son, Stephen O’Malley and his wife, Susan, of South Salem, N.Y.; her brother, Walter Goeller of Fort Salonga, Suffolk County, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Brianna, Amanda O’Malley and Melissa Hartlipp; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Ellen O’Malley on Nov. 10, 2013.

Private visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, from 11 a.m. to noon. A private funeral service will take place at noon at the funeral home. Deacon Beecher will officiate. Committal prayers will be offered at 12:45 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cobble Road, Salisbury; all are invited to attend.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
