Parade, carnival, horse trials & more What there is to do in Millbrook this July and beyond …

There is a lot going on in the village of Millbrook and town of Washington this summer. For starters, there’s the Millbrook Farmers Market, which runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through July right up to Oct. 25 — rain or shine. The summertime festivities continue with the Millbrook Hook and Ladder Engine Company No. 1 Firemen’s Parade and Carnival, running from Wednesday, July 9, through Saturday, July 12, from 7 p.m. to midnight. The carnival offers Bingo, food, rides, Karaoke and games of chance. It will take place at 3323 Franklin Ave., on the grounds of the Thorne Building.The parade, which will step off from lower Franklin Avenue and make its way to upper Franklin Avenue and the site of the carnival, is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, at 6 p.m. According to Village Clerk and Treasurer Linda Wiltse it’s an event not to miss.“A lot of people enjoy it,” she said. “We have several outdoor dining patios in the village where people enjoy being out there as they dine or have a drink and watch the parade go by.”For more information on the carnival or parade call the firehouse at 845-677-3871 or Village Hall at 845-677-3939.The following weekend is the 21st annual Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials and Blue Jean Ball, on Saturday, July 19, with a Spectator Luncheon on Sunday, July 20.“The elegant setting, challenging courses and wide array of associated activities attract both amateur and Olympic competitors,” states the event’s website, www.fitchscorner.com. “Fitch’s Market offers more than 50 exhibitors selling items from fashions to home and accessories for horse and hound. Both residents and nonresidents may use the park for different fees; those rates are available at www.towrecreation.com/park-information.html. Windy weather cancels Kent Invitational

Glastonbury High School crew attempted to battle wind and white caps on Lake Waramaug at the Kent Invitational that was ultimately cancelled, May 10.

KENT — The annual Kent Invitational regatta on Lake Waramaug did not start this year due to strong winds of 30 miles per hour on Saturday, May 10.

The gusts caused white caps on the lake's surface and boats were unable to stay in lane or arrange on the starting line.

Wake Robin developers reapply with P&Z

LAKEVILLE — ARADEV LLC, the developer behind the proposed redesign of Wake Robin Inn, returned before Salisbury’s Planning and Zoning Commission at its May 5 regular meeting with a 644-page plan that it says scales back the project.

ARADEV withdrew its previous application last December after a six-round public hearing in which neighbors along Wells Hill Road and Sharon Road rallied against the proposal as detrimental to the neighborhood.

Eight different players scored for Housatonic in the Northwest Corner rivalry matchup. Sophomore Georgie Clayton led the team with five goals.
