A photographer with a keen eye and a sense of fun

NORTH CANAAN — Jon Capecelatro got a bit of a “raw†deal last month, when he was asked to take photos of the award-winning sushi (raw fish, Japanese style) at The Woodland restaurant in Lakeville.

Capecelatro is a North Canaan native who has returned here after a stint in Colorado, and is opening a professional photography studio this month in May. The office will be at 117 Main St. in North Canaan, in a space above the office of his father, attorney Mark Capecelatro.

Although he’s been taking photos since he was about 6 years old, Capecelatro credits his teacher at Salisbury School, Lisa Sheble, with really teaching him to love working with cameras and images.

He switched from film to digital in 2004 and, “I’ve been documenting everything through photography since.â€

Digital was particularly inspiring to him: “I’ve  always enjoyed playing with photos on my computer to optimize quality and/or put a whole new spin on the shot.â€

In his new business, Capecelatro plans to offer his services for all the standard photographic fare, from parties and weddings to portraits (pets and people), head-shots, product shots, real estate and anything else.

“I especially like on-site shots,†he said. He and friend Ian Johnson, who just opened a photo studio in Millerton, sometimes grab their cameras and “we have lots of fun going on photo missions just to see what we can get.â€

When the intrepid lensmen aren’t out on a mission, Capecelatro can be reached by telephone at 860-318-JONC (5662) or by e-mail at joncapphotography@yahoo.com. The Main Street studio should be open by Memorial Day weekend.
