Primary canceled as Brennan reconsiders

The Democratic primary race for state senator for the 30th District has been canceled, following the withdrawal of Matthew Brennan from the race.

Brennan, a resident of Winchester,  was a paramedic in the ambulance and fire departments, and currently serves on the Torrington Area Health District.

Audrey Blondin, from the Democratic State Central Committee, released this statement on July 22:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt not only for his decision to run, but for his decision to withdraw after deciding this was the right thing to do, not only for himself personally and for his family, but for the party and the residents of the 30th District.

“We can now concentrate our efforts on working together for a great upcoming Democratic victory across the board this coming November.... On behalf of our party and the residents of the 30th District, [we] wish him all the very best for his future endeavors.

The primary vote had been scheduled for Aug. 12. The winner of the contest would have faced incumbent state Sen. Andrew Roraback (R-30) in the November election.

It was a ramble through bramble on Wednesday, April 17 as a handful of Hotchkiss students armed with loppers attacked a thicket of buckthorn and bittersweet at the Sharon Land Trust’s Hamlin Preserve.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
