Race track seeks vintage fire truck

CORNWALL — Anyone interested in buying an old fire truck had better move fast.

The selectmen say they are intrigued by an offer from Lime Rock Park racetrack to purchase the 1980 pumper the town replaced last year.

A little extra money for a piece of equipment that was unlikely to fetch much is nice. But the selectmen particularly liked that racetrack officials included an offer to make the truck available to the town as an extra piece of equipment if needed for an emergency.

Budget watch

In the good news/bad news department: the snow removal budget is underspent. That’s a rarity, and leaves a $30,000 contingency fund untapped.

The bad news is legal bills for the zoning permit appeal for Sweet Peet LLC are in. With the appeal period expired, the selectmen can call it a case closed, but need to come up with about $11,000.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
