Robert G. Pratt

KENT — Robert G. Pratt, 79, of Salisbury, Md., and formerly of Kent, died June 28, 2009, in Maryland after a brief illness. He was the husband of  Audrey (McDonald) Pratt.

Mr. Pratt was born June 7, 1930, the son of the late Grayce (Mott) and Robert Pratt. He attended schools in Brooklyn, N.Y., until he moved to Kent; he graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps and served four years as a sergeant with a tank battalion in the Korean War.

Upon completion of his Marine Corps service, he attended the University of Connecticut and received a degree in education. Mr. Pratt taught English at Cornwall Consolidated School, Housatonic Valley Regional High School and Kent Center School, where he was known for his fairness, creative assignments and humor. Mr. Pratt also coached soccer and softball at Kent Center School.

He had been a member of the Kent Board of Finance and the Democratic Town Committee and was an usher at the Kent Congregational Church.

In addition, he was a faithful correspondent for the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper.

Upon his retirement to Maryland, he served on the Board of Directors at the Salisbury Zoo and also served as president of the Salisbury Home Owners Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Pratt of Ocean City, Md.; and two sisters, Carol MacRitchie of Kent and Marylin Steinmetz of Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was predeceased by a son, Douglas Pratt; and two sisters, Doris Brandesis and Grayce Clissett.

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s girls soccer team is headed to the semifinals of the state tournament.

The Mountaineers are the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoff bracket.
