Ruth (Olsen) Donner

SHARON — Ruth (Olsen) Donner, 85, died March 27, 2010, at her residence in Stuart, Fla.

Born in Grimstad, Norway, she resided in Stuart for 40 years and lived previously in Sharon.

She was a retired home health care aid with the Visiting Nurse Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Stuart.

She is survived by her sister, Alice Martin of Stuart; her sisters-in-law, Vera Olsen of Palm City, Fla., and Marion Olsen of Sharon; a granddaughter, Sandy Fisher and her husband, James, of Spring Hill, Fla.; her great-grandchildren, Candace Weinstein, April Fisher, James Fisher Jr., Payton Fisher and Maggy Fisher; a great-great-grandchild, Liberty Weinstein;  and 21 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Donner; her daughters Diane Koundry and Debra Donner; her grandchildren Sara and Lisa Koundry; and a great-great-grandson, Patrick Fisher.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.

Funeral services will be held April 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the North East Baptist Church  in Millerton, with burial at Ellsworth Cemetery in Sharon.  Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Hills Young & Prill Chapel. A guest registry may be signed at youngandprill.com.

Local arrangements are under the care of the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

Hotchkiss students team with Sharon Land Trust on conifer grove restoration

It was a ramble through bramble on Wednesday, April 17 as a handful of Hotchkiss students armed with loppers attacked a thicket of buckthorn and bittersweet at the Sharon Land Trust’s Hamlin Preserve.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
