School board votes to extend Kaumeyer's contract


 

PINE PLAINS — Last Wednesday, the Board of Education approved a new contract for school Superintendent Linda Kaumeyer.

Kaumeyer, who came to the district in the fall of 2004, previously had served in the Amherst, N.Y., school district since 1997.

"I will continue to enjoy work in Pine Plains and I am grateful for the confidence the board has expressed in my leadership," Kaumeyer said. "The school district is a team effort where no one person is responsible for its success. We all work together and I’m very happy to be associated with the district."

Her new contract runs from July, 1 of this year until June 30, 2013.


School board candidates


According to the Pine Plains Central School District, the candidates for the upcoming Board of Education election, which will be held on Tuesday, May 20, are Brian Croghan and Karen Lindsay.

Croghan is an incumbent who was appointed to serve the remainder of Sarah Dore’s term.

Lindsay has not been on the board before and is running for the seat currently filled by John Shea.

According to the Webutuck School district, the candidates for the upcoming Board of Education election, which will be held on Tuesday, May 20, are Susan Lounsbury, Joesph Herald and former member Joe Matteo.

Lounsbury and Herald are both incumbents. Matteo has previously served on the board and is running for the seat currently filled by Bernadette Coniglio.

It was a ramble through bramble on Wednesday, April 17 as a handful of Hotchkiss students armed with loppers attacked a thicket of buckthorn and bittersweet at the Sharon Land Trust’s Hamlin Preserve.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
