SHARON — Christopher Church, 66, of Sharon is desperately seeking a kidney and is appealing to Lakeville Journal readers for help.

Church has been on a waiting list at Hartford Hospital for a kidney transplant for the past three years.

According to Church, his kidney was burned out through lithium toxicity due to a medicine that his doctor prescribed.

Church’s blood type is a B negative and he is number 11 on the waiting list.

“I feel very weak, Church said. “All I do is hang around the house and sleep most of the day.

Church served as a sailor in the Navy from 1964 to 1971 in the Atlantic Fleet.

Hartford Hospital confirmed that Church is on the list and said that there are currently more than 380 people on the hospital waiting list for kidneys. Many have been on the list for between five and nine years.

The average wait by blood type is Type O, three to five years; Type B, three years; Type AB, two to three years; and Type A, three to four years.
