Senior center party full of holiday spirit

WINSTED — The Winsted Senior Center held its annual Christmas party at Chatterly’s Banquet Hall on Torringford Street on Monday, Dec. 5. Some 105 residents, family and friends attended.

Jennifer Kelley is the new director of the Winsted Senior Center; this is her first year running the Christmas party.

“They hold this party every year, so luckily it was very organized already before I took over as director,” Kelley said. “We had the band booked and scheduled months ago.

“We hold a raffle here in which all the residents who attend bring a present and get a raffle ticket in exchange, and at the end we announce the numbers to determine who gets what gifts.”

Guests started with hors d’oeuvres and a cocktail hour and socialized to get in the holiday spirit. They then found their seats and were served dinner.

“It’s a very nice party. The food was excellent,” said attendee Gerri White.

“The part of the party that everyone always enjoys the most is being out on the dance floor, dancing,” said Carol Grant, president of the Winsted Senior Center. “The band is excellent, and everyone has tons of fun dancing and feeling young again.”

Grant was at a table with Jeanette Beyer, advisory board member at the Winsted Senior Center, and Carol Keslow, site manager of the kitchen of the center.

“This is my first year attending this party, and I’m definitely going to continue coming every year,” Keslow said. “I’m having a really great time socializing and dancing. The band is really great, and the food was very delicious. It’s just a wonderful party they put on here, and I thank them so much for doing it!”
