Sharon bridge scores Aug. 19 & 26

SHARON — On Aug. 19 there were six-and-a-half tables for duplicate bridge at St. Bernard Church on New Street in Sharon. 

We played four boards a round, so North South pairs played 28 boards and East West pairs played 24, having a four board sit-out.The average score was 70. 

For North South pairs, in first with 80 points (57.14 percent) were Trish Stimpson and Harry Hall; in second with 76 points (54.29 percent) were Wendy Summer and John Bevan, and in third with 72 points (51.43 percent) were Stephen Feld and Peter Hollander.  

For East West pairs, in first with 86.23 points (61.66 percent) were Ruth Adams and Lily Beck; in second with 78.17 points (55.84 percent) were Susan Lambrecht and Ken Clark, and in third with 73.5 points (52.5 percent) were Alice Platt and Warren White.

There were seven and a half tables for duplicate bridge on Aug. 26. Using the Mitchell movement, with three boards a round and a bye stand, North South pairs played 24 boards and East West played 21 boards. The average score was 72. 

For North South pairs in first with 82 points (56.94 percent) were Lily Beck and Harry Hall; in second with79 points (54.86 percent) were Pat Konecky and Bob Putz, and tied for third were two pairs, Diane Price playing with Betsy Clark and Norma Bartholomew playing with Tom Burke. 

For East West pairs, in first with 86.66 points (60.32 percent) were Alice Platt and Bob Finn; in second with 79.45 points (55.16 percent) were Biz Rogers and Sue Norris, and tied for third were two pairs, Kerry Noble playing with David Webber and Ruth Adams playing with Alan Gamble.

BRISTOL — The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team ended the season with a 34-0 shutout victory over St. Paul Catholic High School Wednesday, Nov. 26.

It was GNH’s fourth consecutive Turkey Bowl win against St. Paul and the final game for 19 GNH seniors.

Students curate Katro Storm portraits at HVRHS

“Once Upon a Time in America” features ten portraits by artist Katro Storm.

The Kearcher-Monsell Gallery at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village is once again host to a wonderful student-curated exhibition. “Once Upon a Time in America,” ten portraits by New Haven artist Katro Storm, opened on Nov. 20 and will run through the end of the year.

“This is our first show of the year,” said senior student Alex Wilbur, the current head intern who oversees the student-run gallery. “I inherited the position last year from Elinor Wolgemuth. It’s been really amazing to take charge and see this through.”

Mini horses, big impact: animal learning center opens in Sheffield

Le Petit Ranch offers animal-assisted therapy and learning programs for children and seniors in Sheffield.

Le Petit Ranch, a nonprofit offering animal-assisted therapy and learning programs, opened in April at 147 Bears Den Road in Sheffield. Founded by Marjorie Borreda, the center provides programs for children, families and seniors using miniature horses, rescued greyhounds, guinea pigs and chickens.

Borreda, who moved to Sheffield with her husband, Mitch Moulton, and their two children to be closer to his family, has transformed her longtime love of animals into her career. She completed certifications in animal-assisted therapy and coaching in 2023, along with coursework in psychiatry, psychology, literacy and veterinary skills.
