Smooth opening to equestrian season at Riga

SALISBURY — The combined test held last Saturday, May 22 at Riga Meadow Equestrian Center went off without a hitch; a record number of competitors and spectators, wonderful weather and accident-free competition led to a virtual first-place win for the facility’s first event of this season.

Jackie Merwin, an owner of Riga Meadow, said that more than 80 riders competed, which is the most the center has had for a combined test.

The combined test has two components: a dressage test and stadium jumping. It is a warm-up of sorts for a horse trials that Riga Meadow will hold on July 18.

Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
