State Police 4-17-15

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

Vehicle hits guardrail

Robert Russo, 36, of Torrington was driving east on Litchfield Turnpike/Route 202 in New Hartford April 6. At about 5:59 a.m., he lost control of his vehicle. It hit a guardrail off the left side of the road. Russo was not injured. He was given a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Car hits pole

Natalie Dicaro, 25, of Collinsville, Conn., was driving west on Route 44 in New Hartford April 6. At about 12:51 p.m., near the Wickett Street intersection, the 2006 Subaru Tribeca went off the right shoulder. It hit a utility pole. Dicaro had to be extricated from the car. She was taken to Hartford Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The car is registered to Anita Dicaro, of the same address. The road was closed while the pole was replaced or stabilized. The accident remains under investigation.

Rear-end collision

Samantha Nader, 17, of New Hartford was driving east on Route 44 in Barkhamsted April 9. At about 2:42 p.m., the 2006 Saab 9-3 hit the rear of a 2005 Toyota Rav4 driven by Mariel Gilley, 20, of Winsted. There were no injuries to the drivers or Gilley’s passenger, Michelle Fuchs, 21, of New Hartford. Gilley told police she was applying her brakes when the Toyota, registered to John Gilley, of the same address, was hit. Both vehicles were towed with moderate damage. The Saab is registered to Deanna Nader. Samantha Nader was charged with following too closely.

Two-car collision

Liesa Stamm, 71, of West Hartford was driving east on Route 202 in New Hartford April 10. At about 9:21 p.m., about 150 feet east of Torringford East Street, her 2004 Toyota Camry hit the rear of a 2014 Ford Mustang driven by Conrad Senior, 59, of Easton, Conn. Senior had stopped for traffic. There were no injuries. The cars were driven from the scene. Stamm was given a written warning for following too closely.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
