Stissing boys and girls find victory in final game

PINE PLAINS — A snow storm delayed the Bomber Booster Basketball Tournament at Stissing Mountain Middle/High School a day, but all was not lost as the boys and girls varsity teams both found victory on the last day of the holiday tournament.

For the girls, it was following an opening-round 36-45 loss to Rhinebeck. Facing Webutuck in the tournament’s consolation game on Dec. 29, they came out on top, 45-16.

Nikki Lengyel scored a career high 16 points for the Bombers, while Maria Farias had 13 rebounds. Leslie Robertson scored seven for Webutuck.

“We were able to work out some built-up frustration after losing several close games and played our best offensive game of the year,â€ said Pine Plains Coach Eric Sullivan.  “Hopefully we’ll continue to get contributions from everyone and build on this for the second half of the season.â€

Meanwhile, on the boys’ side, Pine Plains cruised into the championship game with a first-round 55-40 win over Rhinebeck. It was a similar win margin the next day with a 65-51 victory over Germantown.

Rob Lamont was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, scoring 30 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Tyler Lydon added six points and seven rebounds.

In the consolation game, Webutuck came up short against Rhinebeck, losing 21-98.
