Stissing Mountain soccer

PINE PLAINS — Stissing Mountain High School’s sports fields were abuzz on Friday, Sept. 30, as the school conducted its homecoming celebrations.

The boys varsity soccer team played against Germantown, earning their first shutout of the season with a 5-0 win.

“It’s nice to get a big win on homecoming,” said coach Dave Owens.

Owens described the first half of the game as “helter-skelter,” but said that the second half was much more organized.

Harry Holmes scored two goals. Ivan Cruz, Alejandro Ayala and Daniel White each scored one. Raine Owens picked up four assists.

The coach singled out goalie Nolan Harpp as one of the best players of the game. It was Harpp’s second game with the team, but he was still able to stop every kick that was aimed at the goal.

Girls varsity field hockey

The Stissing Mountain girls varsity field hockey team met Coxsackie-Athens in a home game on Friday, Sept. 30.

Pine Plains walked away with another shutout win, with a final score of 2-0.

The first goal of the game was made by Kristen Pelletier. It was Pelletier’s first varsity goal.

Monica Smith scored the second goal during the second half of the game.

Coach Richard Meilinger said that Coxsackie-Athens dominated the first few minutes of the game as well as the last few minutes, but Stissing Mountain was able to hold possession for the majority of the match.

Throughout the game, the  Bombers made 34 shots on the goal. Coxsackie-Athens made five.

Meilinger singled out Megan Proper, Anna Woodward, Monica Smith and Mallory Mirto as having played very strong games.

“For coming back off an injury, [Mirto] played solidly,” said the coach.

This game brought the team’s overall record to 4-1-1.

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the team earned another win against Spackenkill.

Maxine Roberts made the winning goal with an assist from Christine Boyles.

The girls made 19 shots on goal during the game. Pine Plains goalie Sarah Beam saved all of the six shots on goal made by Spackenkill.

The girls faced Coxsackie-Athens on Friday, Sept. 23, during an away game and came away with another win.

The final score was 3-0.

Monica Smith made the first goal of the game with 5:50 remaining in the first period.

Abigail Arsenault and Gabby Latendorf each scored one goal in the second half. It was the first varsity career goal for both girls.

Stissing Mountain out-shot their opponents with 17 shots on the goal versus zero shots on goal from Coxsackie-Athens.

Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
