Stroble's is third longtime business to close

KENT —Stroble’s Bakery on Main Street has closed its doors. The store was purchased in 2007 by Ben Mauldin after being owned for many years by Patsy Stroble. The glass cases that used to be filled with cakes, breads and cookies are now empty, as are the once-busy tables and chairs.

Outside of the store, the sign for the bakery has been taken down. Mauldin would not comment for this story. Stroble herself said she was sad.

“I’m more disappointed for him than anything, Stroble said. “He was trying to make something out of it. I don’t know for sure why he closed it down.

This is the third business in town to shut down this year, with the Kent Good Times Dispatch newspaper shutting down in January and Southworth Dodge shutting down this past month.

Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
