Titans season ends with loss in playoffs

TORRINGTON — The season for the Torrington Titans ended on Monday, Aug. 11, when the team lost to the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks 7-3 at Vineyard Baseball Park.The loss marked the end of the team’s participation in the playoffs of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL).The Titans played their first playoff game at home at Fuessenich Park on Friday, Aug. 8. The team won a close game against the Seacoast Mavericks, 7-6.On Saturday, Aug. 9, the team won an 11-inning home game against the Nashua Silver Knights, 9-8.The next day, on Sunday, Aug. 10, the team lost at their last home game of the season against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, 3-1.On Aug. 11 the Sharks eliminated the Titans from the playoffs.In all, the Titans finished second in the West division of the FCBL, ending the season with a 28-win and 25-loss record.“We have a great group of guys,” team general manager Joey Abis said after the defeat on Aug. 11. Abis took the loss in stride.“We have great ownership and a great staff along with head Coach Dan McNamara,” Abis said. “Our goal from day one was to win the championship. However, our underlying goal was to get all of these players to the next level. Getting these guys noticed by the major league teams is a big thing that has definitely worked.”According to the league’s official website 11,412 people attended the team’s games at Fuessenich Park during the season.“I would like to thank all of our fans,” Abis said. “We definitely saw an increase in attendance duing this year. We have some of the best fans in the league and we can’t be more thankful for the folks who attended the games and our families who hosted players.”The next regular season game for the Titans will be in June 2015.Until then, Abis has plans of his own.“I’m going to relax,” he said. “It was a high strung season and we were all going hard it since April. We’re going to take some time off and get back to it next year.”

Veronica Lee Silvernale

MILLERTON — Veronica Lee “Ronnie” Silvernale, 78, a lifelong area resident died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Connecticut. Mrs. Silvernale had a long career at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, where she served as a respected team leader in housekeeping and laundry services for over eighteen years. She retired in 2012.

Born Oct. 19, 1946, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Bradley C. and Sophie (Debrew) Hosier, Sr. Following her graduation from high school and attending college, she married Jack Gerard Silvernale on June 15, 1983 in Millerton, New York. Their marriage lasted thirty-five years until Jack’s passing on July 28, 2018.
