The top 10 students named at HVRHS

FALLS VILLAGE — The top 10 students of the class of 2019 at Housatonic Valley Regional High School gathered for a photo in the guidance office on Monday, June 3.

Here’s where they are going to college in the fall.

Marijke Stifler (salutatorian, Middlebury); Maddie Decker (University of Miami); Soren Clulow (salutatorian, Grinnell College); Victor Flores (Harvard University); Manuella Matsudaira (valedictorian, Rhode Island School of Design); Brierley Lloyd (undecided); Anna Coon (University of Miami); Miri Rinehart (Lewis and Clark College); MacKenzie Hunter (St. Michael’s College); Emma Sephton (University of Miami).

Graduations and promotion ceremonies this year in the Region School District will be held on the following dates. The last day of school in the Region One School District is Tuesday, June 18.

Salisbury Central School, 6 p.m.

Lee H. Kellogg (Falls Village),  7 p.m.

Kent Center School, 6 p.m.

• Monday, June 17

Sharon Center School, 6 p.m.

Cornwall Consolidated School, 5:30 p.m.

North Canaan Elementary School, 7 p.m.

• Tuesday, June 18

Housatonic Valley Regional High School (HVRHS), 6:30 p.m.

The graduation speakers this year at HVRHS are Mark Burdick and Karen Davenport, both of whom are retiring after decades as teachers in the agricultural education department. 

Manuella Matsudaira is the 2019 valedictorian. There are two salutatorians this year; they are Marijka Stiffler and Soren Clulow.

Opening on Sept. 26, Agatha Christie’s legendary whodunit “The Mousetrap” brings suspense and intrigue to the Sharon Playhouse stage, as the theater wraps up its 2025 Mainstage Season with a bold new take on the world’s longest-running play.

Running from Sept. 26 to Oct. 5, “The Mousetrap” marks another milestone for the award-winning regional theater, bringing together an ensemble of exceptional local talent under the direction of Broadway’s Hunter Foster, who also directed last season’s production of “Rock of Ages." With a career that spans stage and screen, Foster brings a fresh and suspense-filled staging to Christie’s classic.

Plein Air Litchfield returns for a week of art in the open air

For six days this autumn, Litchfield will welcome 33 acclaimed painters for the second year of Plein Air Litchfield (PAL), an arts festival produced by Art Tripping, a Litchfield nonprofit.

The public is invited to watch the artists at work while enjoying the beauty of early fall. The new Belden House & Mews hotel at 31 North St. in Litchfield will host PAL this year.
