Torrington man accused of numerous burglaries

WiNSTED — A Torrington resident was arrested twice by the Winchester Police Department and charged with two separate burglaries that occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 23.

According to press releases issued by Department Chief William Fitzgerald, at 8:40 a.m. on Sept. 19 officers were dispatched to 272 Walnut St. for a report of a burglary in progress.

Fitzgerald wrote that the property owner found the suspect in her house and yelled at him to, “Get out now.”

The suspect fled as the property owner called the department with a description of the suspect.

As officers traveled to the scene, they discovered a man matching the description of the suspect running into a wooded area near 345 North Main St.

Officers pursued the suspect on foot toward the river until he surrendered without incident.

Arrested was Richard Lacasse, 30, of Torrington. He was charged with burglary in the third degree, attempted larceny in the sixth degree and interference with an officer.

Lacasse appeared at Torrington Superior Court on Thursday, Sept. 20, and was released on a $10,000 surety bond.

Three days later, on Sept. 23 Lacasse was arrested again by the department after an incident at 83 High St.

According to Fitzgerald, officers spoke to a property owner who witnessed a suspicious person standing on a front porch of a house.

Lacasse was found at the parking lot of the Second Congregational Church at 800 Main St. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with burglary in the third degree and attempted larceny in the sixth degree.

He is being held on a $10,000 surety bond.

According to the state’s court database, Lacasse has been convicted of numerous crimes dating back to 2009, including several burglaries and probation violations.

In an email to The Lakeville Journal, Fitzgerald wrote that Lacasse is the main suspect in several other burglaries that took place in September.

Lacasse was scheduled to be arraigned to answer to charges in the first incident at Torrington Superior Court on Monday, Oct. 1.

He is scheduled for an appearance to answer to charges in the second incident on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
