Trinity Conference Center has a buyer

CORNWALL — A deposit has been made on the former Trinity Conference Center property in West Cornwall.

Ira Goldspiel, the listing realtor with Sotheby’s International, confirmed this week there is a buyer for the 100-acre portion of the Lower River Road property that includes numerous buildings and residences, including a 25-bedroom hotel-style facility.

It was closed two years ago by owner Trinity Wall Street. It is listed at $2.485 million.

Goldspiel said he could not divulge the name of the potential buyer yet.

“But as a resident of this area, I am always happy when I get a buyer who will use a property in a way that is complementary to our towns,” he said, “and I can say I am very enthusiastic about this buyer.”

He expects the sale to be completed next February.

Meanwhile, the Cornwall Conservation Trust (CCT) plan to buy the remaining 317 acres there is coming together.

According to CCT President Barton Jones, recommendations for funding by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are on Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s desk.

CCT is seeking an Open Space grant toward an agreed sale price of $715,000. The plan is to continue to preserve that land and call it Trinity Camp Forest. It connects the Brokaw Preserve off Dibble Hill Road and the Housatonic State Forest. There are existing trails, which will be enhanced, and logging roads and varied terrain that make it ideal for passive recreation, hunting and as a nature habitat.
