75 years ago — October 1936

SALISBURY — Mr. E.E. Stalker escaped with minor injuries on last Friday afternoon when he was knocked down by a car driven by Joseph Stanton. Mr. Stalker was crossing the road in front of the town hall and did not see the car which was going at a slow rate of speed.

The White Hollow Club building at Lime Rock has been purchased by Mr. L.H. LaMotte who took possession on Oct. 1.

TACONIC — Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schlock, who have occupied the Pickert house for several months, are moving to Salisbury on Thursday.

50 years ago — October 1961

FALLS VILLAGE — Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Tyburski have purchased the former Broere home, and are now Falls Village residents.  Mr. Tyburski is the new physical education teacher and coach at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. The family previously lived in Ansonia. There are two children, Edward, age 3, and Michael, age 1.

LAKEVILLE — Peter V. Brazzale, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Brazzale of Lincoln City Road, has been promoted to Airman First Class. He entered the service on Sept. 14 of 1959.

25 years ago — October 1986

The peak of autumn coloring in the Tri-State Corner has been at least two weeks ahead of normal and the foliage in many places is spectacular, according to U.S. weather observer Edward C. Childs of Norfolk.

SALISBURY — The spring-fed water fountain at the corner of U.S. Route 44 and Washinee Street this week bore a sign that read “Water temporarily contaminated.” First Selectman Charlotte Reid said that bacteria caused the shutdown. Chlorine has been added to the water at the concrete spring house on Selleck Hill.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
