Victor I. Carnelli

WEST HARTFORD — Victor I. Carnelli, 96, beloved husband of Rita Carnelli for 67 years, died Nov. 3, 2014, in his Singer Island, Fla., home. 

Born in Hartford on April 16,1918,he was the son of the late Oscar and Mary Carnelli. Vic served in the army for five years during World War II. When he returned home, he and his brother, Raymond, founded Carnelli Construction Company, known for building quality homes in West Hartford and Simsbury, Conn. 

After retiring at the age of 54, Vic and his wife, Rita, became “snowbirds,” wintering in Florida and spending summers at their cottage on Highland Lake. In both homes, he enjoyed entertaining his many friends and family. 

During summers at the lake, Vic took great pride in manicuring his yard and garden. In 1999, he won the Senior Division at the Greenwood Country Club for golf. 

With Rita, he traveled the world, seeing Europe, the Orient, Mexico and the United States, including Alaska. 

He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed. 

In addition to his wife, Rita, he is survived by his son, William Carnelli of New Hartford, Conn.; his daughter, Linda Carnelli of Singer Island; his brother, Raymond Carnelli of West Hartford; his sister, Viola Wells of Simsbury, Conn.; his sister-in law, Avis Howe of Jupiter, Fla.; and his nieces, nephews, friends and those who call him Uncle Vic. 

Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society. 

There will be a private family gathering at a later date.

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity baseball won big at home Wednesday, April 16, with a 15-3 win against Terryville High School.

Housatonic performed well on both sides of the ball. Offensively, HVRHS batters combined for 12 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

NWCT Arts Council: Spring fundraiser

On Saturday, April 26, the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council will host a special evening, Arts Connected, their spring fundraiser celebrating the power of creativity and community. Held at the Bryan Memorial Town Hall in Washington Depot from 5 to 8 p.m., this event brings together artists, performers, and neighbors for a magical night filled with inspiration, connection and joy.

Award-winning designer and arts advocate Diane von Furstenberg and her granddaughter Antonia Steinberg are honorary co-chairs of the event. Their shared love of the arts informs the spirit of the evening.
